Peace Rising: The Next Generation

Montage of Standing Rock Banners

From Kabul, Afghanistan in 2007, to Occupy Wall Street in 2011, to Standing Rock in 2016, Baba Tree International has leveraged its resources and capacity in support of the efforts of frontline peace and nonviolence movements. We call these initiatives Peace Rising and they represent our commitment to serving the overall advancement of nonviolence.

Whether we are amplifying the voices of these movements, providing training, lending organizational infrastructure, delivering resources, or sending volunteers trained in nonviolence to the front lines, Peace Rising initiatives are entirely funded by BTI and its supporters.

peace rising: Standing Rock

In 2016, BTI supported the Water Protectors' nonviolent defense of the Standing Rock Sioux Nation's land and water by:

  • delivering over 2000 pounds of fresh organic produce from Vermont farmers, hundreds of gallons of spring water, 4 woodstoves and clean firewood, and two trailers full of new winter gear, among other supplies
  • bringing a team of Play in the Wild! youth trained in nonviolence to serve as needed at base camp (Oceti Sakowin)
  • producing 3 documentary videos about little known and largely undocumented acts of extraordinary nonviolence by the Water Protectors and broadcasting these stories via social media
  • co-organizing solidarity actions in Vermont

These efforts were sustained by over $10,000 of donations by individual donors and hundreds of hours of volunteer time by BTI team members.
